Doug Fairbanks
Founder & Owner - Athlete Strength; In - Residence Trainer for Matt Duffy Baseball Academy
Doug Fairbanks is a dedicated professional always learning and driven to be the best coach he can be. If asked, his colleagues will say, "he is incredibly diligent, highly skilled in program design, and adept at solving difficult problems." Over 30 years, he has made substantial impacts in elite sports performance, youth athlete development, injury management, and nutrition coaching.
His experiences have granted him the privilege of training and consulting with thousands of athletes and families, hundreds of coaches, and working alongside athletic trainers, PT’s, and chiropractors.
Doug has been an effective leader, teacher, and head coach throughout his career. He began as the Founder and Director of a strength and conditioning business on the south shore of Boston for 8 years, training hundreds of high school and college athletes. Notably, three players were drafted in the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 (Mike Ryan 32nd pick overall), Mark Concannon (3rd round), and Bill Cass in 2000 (3rd round), among many others who signed as free agents.
In his next role, he served as the Director of Sports Performance for the College of Charleston, a Division I College in Charleston, South Carolina, for 7 years. His primary management responsibilities included baseball, softball, men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, and late-stage injury rehabilitation. During his tenure, 40 athletes were drafted or played professionally, with 23 baseball players drafted, including 8 in one season (notably, 3rd round pick in 2005 Brett Gardner of the New York Yankees). Nine players in school history played in MLB, seven during Coach Fairbanks' tenure. Additionally, while living in Charleston, Doug worked for Cenegenics Medical Institute as a nutrition and training consultant, performing strength, flexibility, VO2 Max testing, and planning nutrition and supplement strategies during one-on-one education sessions.
Since 2009, Doug has been back coaching and consulting in the south shore area of Boston. He is grateful to be training many hardworking, focused middle school, high school, and professional athletes from multiple sports. Most notably Conor Garland (2015 NHL draft, currently with the Vancouver Canucks), Matt Duffy (Retired MLB Houston Astros and NPB Chiba Lotte Marines), and Amy Varano (Current WEEHL Pro Hockey Sweden, Italian National Team). He also works closely with Dr. David Leaf D.C. DIBAK, a nationally and internationally recognized expert in assessing and managing injuries, located in Plymouth, MA.
